This paper presents a Petri net approach to modeling andperformance analysis of the Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI)network. The service type described in the “Timed TokenRotation” protocol, supporting both synchronous and asynchronoustraffic, is modeled using stochastic Petri nets, and its performance isconducted for both symmetric/asymmetric cases. In order to deal withlarge networks without creating very long Markov chains, a modified Nstation network is introduced. The correlation between the voice anddata throughput rate, and the parameters of the system, such as thenetwork load and the network speed are investigated
