The authors present the results obtained from an induction motordesign and flux-vector, drive-simulation program used to investigate theconsequences of special, low-inertia, induction-motor designs. Theinfluences of skin effect and saturation of the machine are included inthe drive model. The effect of slotting, saturation, skew and rotorshaft diameter changes needed to cope with unbalanced magnetic pull areincluded in the design program. Results are presented for the fullymodelled drive system showing the improved response of the modifieddesign
