Micro-machined optical add/drop multiplexer with clientconfigurability

摘要

The rapid evolving of optical transport systems into WDM systemshas shown clear demands for functionalities inside the optical layer tomanipulate the traffic on the wavelength basis. One such importantfunctionality is to use optical add/drop multiplexers (OADM) to add anddrop a subset of wavelengths from the transmission system without fullopto-electronic regeneration. OADMs play important roles both in opticalcore networks and in regional access networks. In this paper wedemonstrate a client configurable OADM using a 8×6 micro-machinedmatrix switch, and propose several OADM architectures to achieveclient-configurability in different network environments
