A system for automatic patient realignment in MR imaging of thehead

An expert system for automatic patient realignment in MRI is beingdeveloped. The approach relies on the isolation of several keyanatomical features and consequently, has resulted in the development ofnovel feature extraction techniques. Rotational movement of a currentset of slices with respect to a historical master set was computed andcorrected. This was achieved by carrying out measurements on theisolated features from the two sets of scans and then performing thetransformations. Resulting images based on off-line processing show animprovement in patient positioning compared to the realignment achievedby the radiographer
