Use of co-polar correlation coefficient for probing precipitationalong the vertical

Presents observations of the co-polar correlation coefficient|ρ_hv(0)| made with a ground based and airborne weatherradars along the vertical. Also differential phase and differentialreflectivity at a 10° off nadir are shown. Simple models of prolateand oblate spheroids are used to qualitatively explain the observations
