Several companies, including Texas Instruments, are recognizingthe strong compatibility between existing design formanufacturability/assembly (DFM/A) principles and the goals andpractices of design for the environment (DFE). Leveraging off thecommonalities of DFM/A and DFE, these companies are achieving gains notonly in the the environmental characteristics of their products andprocesses, but also reductions in development and production cycle time, product defect levels, and in product life cycle costs. This strategy ofmutually optimizing manufacturability and environmental considerationsduring design has resulted in a “win-win” situation for allstakeholders
