A simple procedure is described for comparing the latencycharacteristics of various accelerator additives in epoxy-anhydridevacuum pressure impregnation (VPI) resins. The procedure utilizesnormalized molar concentration parameters, relating to both the gelreactivity and the storage stability characteristics of the resinsystem, and permits a latency factor quantity to be derived for eachaccelerator material. The procedure is illustrated by means ofexperimental data obtained with eight different latent accelerators inan epoxy-anhydride resin system. This technique could be used to screenand evaluate future accelerator additives for VPI resin applications
