Necessity of Spreading Information about Sound and Sustainable Water Environment to Elderly Persons

For these ten years after retirement from Nagasaki University, author is thinking how to make more persons be interested in a sound and sustainable water environment. For seeking its answer, investigation has been carried out based on the historical documents and the field survey at Kyoto. In general, lots of persons are not conscious of achieving a sustainable water environment. For example, in Kyoto only a few persons know that the famous festivals such as "Aoi Matsuri" and "Gion Matsuri" are strongly connected with the water-related ceremony. In the central part of Kyoto, there were many wells and springs, which were the sightseeing spots in Edo era. But, many of them are already dried up now. This kind of environmental alteration leads an unconcerned fashion of person for water environment. Considering the above situation, it becomes important to spread information, caught by many persons with lots of interests. Nowadays, elderly persons are very healthy and active. From now, they will hopefully take pleasure on a waterfront after improving the water environment. Author, one of the elderly persons, is trying to send the information regarding to the above-mentioned theme, searching a several kind of occasion even on a voluntary basis.
