This paper presents a quadrature-phase voltage controlled oscillator (QVCO) for offset phase and frequency compensation in various applications. A method of adjusting the QVCO output amplitude using tunable negative-gm cells is proposed. Such a QVCO can be very useful as a controller for phase interpolator in clock and data recovery circuits to reduce per lane power consumption and overall jitter. Designed in 65 nm CMOS technology, the QVCO has a gain of ~34 MHz/V, while drawing a current of 3.9 mA from a 1 V supply.
