A novel passive surveillance scheme for optical transmission systems with multiple in-line optical amplifiers

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel surveillance scheme for an optically amplified transmission system which allows simultaneous in-service fiber fault identification and optical amplifiers' status monitoring, without any dedicated light source as in conventional optical time domain reflectometry (OTDR) technique.
