摘要

The Safer Consumer Products (SCP) program is being implemented to reduce toxic chemicals in the products consumers buy and use. California's ground-breaking regulations identify specific products that contain potentially harmful chemicals and ask manufacturers to innovate and find safer alternatives. When deciding which products to prioritize, the department bases its decisions on chemical exposure potential and hazard potential. When selecting safer product designs or formulations, manufacturer decisions are also informed by the exposure pathways associated with those alternatives considered. This presentation describes the role of exposure science in informing California's policy and will discuss how tools such as conceptual models, dust studies, and near-field exposure models have been applied in SCP decision making. The presentation will highlight opportunities to address exposure-related information gaps to advance the search for alternatives.
