An adaption strategy based on a combination of cell refinement and cell face reorientation for two=dimensional unstructured grids is developed. The local solution gradient is decomposed using a multidimensional wave model, and this wave information is used not only to refine the grid in regions of important flowfield activity, but also to align cell faces with dominant wave fronts. Numerical results show that this adaption strategy leads to reduced nonphysical diffusion of important wave structures.
