Optimizing the encoder/decoder structures in a discretecommunication system

The problem of optimizing the structure of the encoder/decoderpair in a discrete communication system (with an additive distortionmeasure) is expressed in terms of a bilinear programming problem (BLPProblem). An efficient method, based on the simplex search inconjunction with the generalized upper bounding technique is presentedfor the solution. The special features of the problem are exploited toreduce the computational complexity of the proposed algorithm
