In this paper, researches have been carried out on how to improvemicroprocessor system reliability using fault tolerant theory andtechnique. A kind of three module redundant fault-tolerantmicroprocessor system structure has been proposed which can mask bothtransient fault and permanent fault. This fault-tolerant system has beenrealized in hardware using microcontroller 80c552 as core. Thefault-tolerant system consists of three functional modules with the samehardware and a fault-masking network. The three modules are alternativein function and the fault-masking network is used for fault-detectionand fault-tolerance. The fault-tolerant microprocessor system has beenapplied in robotization automatic drilling machine and as the maincontrol unit which executes key tasks. Its powerful fault-tolerance andhigh reliability have been proved by practice
