Optimal approximation of functions using piecewise polynomial fuzzysystems

A constructive method for the design of an optimal SISO piecewisepolynomial fuzzy system approximating a given real continuous functionwith arbitrary accuracy is proposed. Three cases are consideredaccording to the definition of optimality. An example is given thatillustrates the method and confirms the interest in consideringpolynomial membership functions
