Three issues regarding the implementation of faculty developmentprograms on the use of information technology in teaching are discussed:the goal issue; the training model issue; and the motivation issue. Thegoal of the program should be to build faculty confidence at usinginformation technology in the classroom. In this regard, the constructof computer self-efficacy is a useful guide for planning the activitiesof the program. A training model in which faculty will have the greatestopportunity to share ideas across disciplines as well as within theirdisciplines is recommended. Faculty who use computers for instructionare internally motivated to do so, and this is mediated by theirself-efficacy, hence appropriate training is the key. An inservicetraining that focused on enhancing faculty computer self-efficacyappeared to have bad a positive effect of faculty desire to use computerin their instructional activities
