We have been investigating three-dimensional (3D) display system using binary phase modulation. Basically, theelimination of the amplitude distribution and the binarization of the phase distribution degrade the reconstructed imagequality and enhances the speckle influence. Therefore, the optimization of the binary phase pattern is required. So far, theiterative phase retrieval method such as Gerchberg–Saxton algorithm and modified Fresnel ping-pong algorithm is apowerful method. Error diffusion technique is available for gray-scale phase distribution. In this paper, we compare thereconstructed image quality of two-dimensional imaged floating in the air by using several methods.
