STRENGTHENING THE SECURITY OF ESA GROUND DATA SYSTEMS

A common approach to address information security hasbeen implemented in ESA’s Mission Operations (MOI)Infrastructure during the last years. This paper reportson the specific challenges to the Data Systems domainwithin the MOI and how security can be properlymanaged with an Information Security ManagementSystem (ISMS) according to ISO 27001. Results of aninitial security risk assessment are reported and thedifferent types of security controls that are beingimplemented in order to reduce the risks are brieflydescribed.
