Virtual sub-container multiplexing method for optical subscribersystem

The path multiplexing architecture for optical subscriber systemsthat are constructed with synchronous transfer mode (STM) techniques isdiscussed. A novel concept, the virtual sub-container (VSC), is proposedto realize multiple network access. The VSC multiplexing method willmake it possible to offer various services flexibly and inexpensively.Configuration of the digital service unit (DSU) based on VSC and theuser network interface, and ideas for operation, administration, andmaintenance are shown. The necessity of considering the introduction ofasynchronous transfer mode (ATM) is also discussed
