PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical multiplex communication method, an optical multiplex communication system, an optical signal multiplexer, and an optical signal demultiplexer in which very high speed transmission using an optical multiplex signal having a pulse width easy to transmit is realized at low cost.;SOLUTION: The optical signal multiplexer encodes and generates a plurality of optical pulse streams each having a particular amplitude for each communication channel as optical signals, and multiplex the plurality of optical pulse streams on the time base to generate and transmit the optical multiplexed signal. The optical signal demultiplexer which receives the optical multiplex signal transmitted via an optical transmission line inputs the optical multiplex signal to an optical frequency converter, converts the optical multiplex signal into a plurality of pulse streams of different carrier frequencies for each communication channel, and demultiplexes the plurality of optical pulse streams for each communication channel.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
