Portable Spectroscopy in 2019 –Smaller, Cheaper and in Consumer Products?

In recent years, portable spectrometers (XRF, Raman, near-IR, FT-IR),produced by major analytical instrumentcompanies, have cost in the range of $20,000 - $50,000, and sold for very specific applications. One of the mostintriguing trends in the past year is the appearance of portable photonic devices and spectrometers in consumer products,for instance, washing machines and hair care. This paper surveys the technologies and emerging products.
