Some advanced fuzzy logic control technologies which have beensuccessfully applied in industrial applications in Europe are outlined.Since a significant number of applications were realized in Germany'sautomotive industry, a research model car built at the RWTH Universityof Aachen was used as a means of illustration. The objective for the carwas to drive as fast as possible without hitting any obstacle orracetrack border and without getting into an unstable situation. If thecar got into an unstable situation such as skidding or sliding, theobjective was to reestablish cruise stability as fast as possible. Atypical experiment is outlined. The control strategy is described. Thefuzzy logic controller was able to control the car even in unstablesituations
