Representation, mutation and crossover issues in evolutionarycomputation

Representation, and the use of mutation and crossover orrecombination are issues which some people from the different areaswithin evolutionary computation still disagree. The philosophical andrepresentational differences we can attribute to the initialapplications of each of the areas. We examine the role of mutation andcrossover/recombination and when we mould expect them to worksuccessfully and the effects of representation on them. We conclude thatthe areas have strengths, and should all be considered when designing anevolutionary algorithm
