The thermal decomposition of a brominated bisphenol A epoxy resinwas studied by using a combination of mechanical, thermogravimetric,calorimetric, and infrared spectroscopic methods. Four distinct stagesof degradation were identified: (I) slow-rate degradation, (II)charring, (III) stabilization, and (IV) combustion. Thethermogravimetric and mechanical changes in each of these stages arecorrelated with the chemical changes inferred from the evolved gasanalysis. The isothermal life of laminates are predicted based on theinformation obtained
