A time-domain approach for analyzing the near field/far fieldcharacteristics of a large planar array of radiating elements printed ona multilayered dielectric medium is described. The transmission linemodeling method with a time-domain version of the periodic andabsorptive boundary condition combined with an equivalent sourceformulation serves as the basis of this approach. The method can bewidely applied in determining the input near field and the far radiatedfield of planar arrays for nonsinusoidal time variation. Inter-elementinteractions are properly taken into account. Special near fieldperformance such as the peak power handling capability of the array canalso be determined by this method
