Although XLPE is efficiently used for high voltage cableinsulation because of its many outstanding properties, it undergoesdeterioration due to "treeing". A lot of research has been carried outto retard treeing in XLPE cables by using additives. However, littleinformation appears to exist as to whether and to what extent suchmodifications affect the other relevant properties of XLPE. This paperhighlights the modification of XLPE by adding different types ofadditives with a view to improving the electrical tree inception voltageof unmodified XLPE. These modified and unmodified samples have also beenevaluated for mechanical properties, thermal stability, oxidativestability, extent of crosslinking, volume resistivity and dissipationfactor measurement
