The paper studies applicability of the near infrared autofluorescence response of the in vivo and ex vivo skin tumors. It was achieved the important spectral differences of the skin tumors can be associated with different melanin concentrations. The analysis of the autofluorescence spectral shape allows one to differentiate malignant skin tumors with 0.85 accuracy and melanocytic tumors with 0.73 accuracy to be classified as melanoma in both cases. For ex vivo tissues the analysis of the photobleaching effect was carried out during the continuous 785 nm excitation of the tissue site. The results show that photobleaching properties can be used as informative parameters to differentiate melanocytic skin tumors.
