Augmented Eye: From theory to practice

This paper describes the prototype development of a pilot instructor support tool: Augmented Eye. This tool aims to support instructors by enabling them to monitor students' scan behaviour in real-time, without bothering the student. Although little is known about optimal pilot scan behaviour, some scan behaviour can yet be quantified and translated to scan performance. This led to the construction of a tunneling analysis and gap analysis. Augmented Eye has a modular set-up, including a fusion of simulator data, eye tracking data and real-time analyses. The tool seems promising for pilot training.
