The Creating Automotive Renewal (CAR) project aims at sharing knowledge and promoting electric mobility in the South Baltic region. Project partners come from Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Poland. The competences and resources of the Project Partners are complementary, which facilitates cooperation and the construction of a network of public organizations, universities, companies, research institutes, clusters and institutions that want to contribute to the increase in the number of electric mobility systems.Gdansk University of Technology has been invited to the project because of its experience in hazardous waste handling, including safe storage size reduction and fractioning of lithiumtion batteries and the experience in valuable materials recovery from waste. Gdansk University of Technology is building a large-scale laboratory setup for testing the amenability of materials obtained from lithium-ion batteries to mechanical recycling and enrichment. Five different types of mills were evaluated: disc mill, hammermill, two shaft shredder, crusher and HS shredder for comminution of spent Li-ion batteries.
