Many studies have shown the negative health effects due to traffic noise exposure. To be able to carry out health studies with high accuracy, noise calculations with high accuracy are also needed. This poses problems not normally associated with noise mapping projects. In the present health study almost 20 000 breast cancer patients in Uppsala county were studied from 1990 until today. This meant that the traffic noise levels should be calculated for 40 000 addresses since some of the patients had moved within the county during the time period. Some had moved to other parts of the country and they were excluded. The noise levels should be calculated from 1990-2010 in 5 year increments. The biggest problem with this study was finding the traffic flow data for the different periods. Traffic data is not regularly stored neither for road- nor railway traffic. A lot of effort went into finding the old data and for roads and railways were no data could be found the latest data had to be recalculated in order to reflect the different time periods. Since 1990 several new roads and large residential areas have been built. To get accurate information on the completion date of those project was also problematic.
