Comparative Study of Alternate Slender Wall Design Procedures

Recognizing there have been questions on the differences between the alternate slender wall design procedures in 1997 UBC and in ACI 318-02, the SEAOSC Board authorized a Task Group in 2005 to provide a comprehensive review of the two design procedures. This paper will discuss background of the Alternate Slender Wall design procedure in 1997 UBC, and will give excerpt of findings from "UBC 97 and ACI 318-02 Code Comparison Summary Report," by the 2005 SEAOSC Slender Wall Task Group.
