Solid-state Li-ion battery (SSLiB) is one of the most promising next-generation automobile battery technologies that is expected to offer significantly enhanced safety and energy density, and that however requires more advanced conductive solid electrolytes. Recently, by leveraging our accumulated experiences from several research projects including those funded through SBIR (small business innovation research program), Bioenno Tech has developed a new generation of SSLiB based on a novel class of polymer-based solid electrolytes with high ionic conductivity, and the associated nanostructured electrodes with high specific capacities and good ionic/electronic conductivities. Using this class of electrolytes and the associated cathode and anode that can be processed via a cost-effective, scalable route, the issues of electrolyte/electrodes interfacial contact as encountered in conventional SSLiBs can be effectively addressed, leading to more desirable battery performa nce, including enhanced energy/power densities, improved cyclability, excellent safety, and wide operation temperatures. The resultant SSLiBs and energy/power solutions would provide superior performance such as higher energy density, smaller size, lighter weight, longer shelf/service life, excellent stability/safety, and potentially lower manufacturing costs, so that will find wide applications including but not limited to various aircrafts, ground/sea vehicles, transportations and consumer electronics sectors.
