A Method for Optimizing Far Field Quiet zone Taper of Antenna Measurement

In the design and construction of far-field of antenna measurement, big quiet area and small chamber size is with contradiction, this paper attempts to explore how to ease this contradiction. In this paper, the quiet zone taper model is deduced, and the expression of the “ideal” antenna radiation amplitude and phase function can be obtained, which indicates that the radiation phase characteristic is critical. Then a FDTD simulation model of 0.8 GHz ~ 23 GHz broadband horn antenna is established. The simulation results show that the antenna phase characteristic presents as an “ideal” curve. If the theory can be realized in engineering, chamber length can be compressed and significant investment in construction can be saved.
