A Framework for Evaluating Energy Sustainability Efforts for Maritime Smart Port Operations

摘要

Energy-efficient operations have been getting more attention from maritime operators and regulators in the journey towards sustainable smart ports. This research proposes a framework to analyze and evaluate sustainability initiatives for land-side terminal operations in the maritime sector. The proposed framework provides a process-driven approach to capture energy management across various business processes. The approach provides consistent comparisons across terminal operations, has the capabilities of drilling-down to business units for accountability and rolling-up for management reporting. The framework considers four key evaluating parameters, namely transparency (measurement methodologies), technologies, best practices and policies. The framework aims to serve as the guiding principles for sustainability and policy decision makers in setting the directions for energy-efficient smart ports.
