This paper presents a successful functional design for a Robust Dynamic Positioning System (RDPS) capstone project. This design is created by using block diagrams with the inputs and outputs for all levels in order to build and test a vessel platform. The design at level 0 is a Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) sensor to determine position of the vessel. Level 1 is the design of all hardware components. Level 2 shows the internal communications for each component. The results of building this platform with the real time test of the platform with the controllers is presented at level 3. An Adaptive and Segmented Proportional Integral Derivative (ASPID) controller has been designed to meet the design performances of this platform.
