The Damage Adaptive Guidance for piloted Upset Recovery (DAGUR) system is structured to directly address several known contributing and causal factors associated with upset and Loss-Of-Control (LOC) situations. LOC situations are often the result of a sequence of precipitating factors including inappropriate crew action or inaction. DAGUR provides closed-loop recovery guidance via night-director-based visual cues. Adaptation enables generation of appropriate guidance even in cases of vehicle impairment. The system is implemented upstream of the pilot and does not require modifications to flight control software and is equally applicable to non-fly-by-wire aircraft. This paper presents results from Learjet flight tests that demonstrate the efficacy during in-flight upsets.
