GA optimal sink placement for maximizing coverage in Wireless Sensor Networks

摘要

Optimal Placement of a certain number of sinks at appropriate locations in WSNs reduces the number of hops between a sensor and its sink. This reduction ensures less exchanged messages between nodes and consequently less energy consumption. Since finding the optimal number of the sinks and their locations is an NP Hard problem, a meta-heuristic evolutionary approach has been adopted as a Sink Placement strategy. The Genetic algorithm based optimum sink placement enables us to find out the near optimal results for coverage with the minimum possible sinks.
