Counterfeit electronic components have caused significant harm to the electronic manufacturing industry for years: product failure, delays in manufacturing, and costs related to failure analysis and rework. While counterfeit components continue to pose a serious threat, different members of the industry have developed and implemented effective risk mitigation techniques. For example, industry groups have published numerous risk mitigation standards (e.g. IDEA-STD-1010, CCAP-101, AS5553, AS6174, AS6081. AS6496, and AS6171) that prescribe best practices for the avoidance, detection, disposition, and reporting of counterfeit electronic components.
