In this study, reservoir simulation model is developed and the results of the simulation model have been incorporated for the development of the Fuzzy rule based reservoir operation model. The steps involved in the development of the Fuzzy rule based model include construction of the membership function for the monthly inflows, based on the frequency distribution of the historical inflows data. The monthly storage and releases membership function is constructed based on the results obtained through the simulation model. Simulated reservoir operation provides the knowledge base necessary for the formulation of the Fuzzy rules. The aim of this work is to apply the fuzzy logic approach to represent the results of the simulated operation of a system in a simple and understandable to the reservoir operators. This framework uses a fuzzy rule-based system to reproduce the results of the simulation model in the form of surface viewer for the time period. It provides the decision support for the real-time reservoir operators under uncertainty. The methodology is demonstrated through the case study of the Sukhi irrigation project in the Narmada basin, Gujarat, India.
