In this communication, a simple design technique is proposed to enhance gain of a conventional microstrip patch antenna which improves the antenna performance for Global Positioning System application. This paper presents a coax fed microstrip stacked patch antenna. Proposed design involve two concurrent techniques, stacked patch and coax feeding. The combined effect of adapting these two techniques make way for a high gain, low profile antenna. The simulated and fabricated results showed satisfactory performance in terms of gain, return loss and VSWR with a gain of about 10.32dB, a return loss of -23dB and voltage standing wave ratio of 1.13dB. The proposed antenna design is suitable especially for base station array applications. Fabricated stacked patch antenna and the achieved simulation results are in good agreement and presented antenna model demonstrate the performance for gain improvement.
