This paper examines the influence of water bolus coupling layer on the specific absorption rate and temperature distributions respectively in the tissue during hyperthermia treatment of human limb tumor using a previously reported microstrip slot antenna integrated with a compact artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) reflector at 2.45 GHz. The simulation study reveals the effectiveness of the antenna-AMC combination for hyperthermia treatment of arm and thigh tumors. Further, the results indicate that during treatment, hotspot in the skin can be reduced by optimizing water bolus temperature.
