Digestive functions regulated by 6-shogaol towards stomach and small intestine

Ginger is a well-known traditional Chinese medicine which has been identified with positive digestive function regulations e.g. vomit prevention and warming interior. 6-shogaol is one of ginger's major bioactive constituents. In this study, digestive functions regulated by 6-shogaol towards stomach and small intestine were investigated. Started with biomarkers regulated by 6-shogaol reported in PubMed literatures, functional protein-protein interactions (FPPI) from biomarkers to proteins expressed in stomach and small intestine were filtered out. These FPPIs form networks regulated by 6-shogaol. Based on these participant proteins, enrichment analysis mainly focused on metabolic processes e.g. proteolysis, fatty acid, purine, steroid, et al and immune responses. Taken together, through 6-shogaol, ginger can regulate a large variety of metabolic processes to enhance digestive functions so as to prevent vomit and warming interior via these enhanced digestive functions.
