INFLUENCE OF THE OBTURATOR BREAKAGE ON THE SABOT SEPARATION OF AN APFSDS ROUND

These works had for purpose to study how a dissymmetry in the obturator breakage duringthe sabot discard may affect the point of impact of a large caliber APFSDS round. For thatwe used a detailed 3D FEM model to simulate the behavior of different configurations ofobturators, with configurations adapted to emphasized symmetrical and non-symmetricalbehaviors. The results show that an influence on the Target Impact Dispersion may exist,which may vary from negligible to noticeable on the overall TID.
