1.SHA Stands for "Secure Hash Algorithm" A hash function. H(x) = y is one where: • (y) is easily computed from (x). • Computationally infeasible to find (x) given (y). • H(x+s) is significantly different than H(x) for any value of s. (Called "fragility") 2. Developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in 1995 3. Generates and verifies signatures to provide data integrity and origin authentication.
