Seismic probabilistic risk assessment (SPRAs) requires the dynamic analysis of structures, systems and components (SSCs) in a nuclear power plant under many different ground motions, and therefore it is necessary to develop relatively simple and sufficiently accurate structural models for the computational efficiency of the SPRA process. 2D and 3D structural models of essential buildings and components in a pseudo-nuclear power plant are developed, and their dynamic characteristics and response are evaluated and compared in terms of accuracy, time required for analysis, and simplicity of the models.
