The paper looks at the history of the phenomenon of conductive anodic filament (CAF) and then at early and later improvements to resin chemistry in order to reduce the effect. The relative influence of base material selection and several design elements in mitigating CAF are then presented. The paper then focuses on the influence of the adhesion promoting glass fabric finish and glass fibre distribution concluding with recent developments improving CAF performance.
