Design and performance of a dual tuned 7 T proton/sodium breast coil

A dual-tuned radiofrequency coil was built for sodium (~(23)Na) and proton (~1H) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the breast at 7T. For this purpose a four-channel ~(23)Na receive array and a single-channel transmit ~(23)Na solenoid were built along with a single-channel ~1H transmit/receive solenoid. The developed coil, combined with optimized pulse sequences could provide diagnostic information in breast cancer and allow therapy monitoring.
