Interface Management (IM) is a major key to the success of construction projects, which remains ignored particularly during the engineering/design phase of the project. Failure to appropriately manage interfaces can cause rework and wasted time that increases the cost and delay the target schedule of the projects. It also influences project's teamwork performance, quality, scope changes control, and safety. One of the main challenges facing the construction industry is the insufficient project interface management performance measurement and prediction tools. Generally, there is no standard method for measuring project interface management performance. In this research, a new approach for evaluating and analysing the impact of IM on project performance indicators during the engineering / design phase is introduced to enhance project performance. Using Alberta data, three phases are conducted in this research using surveys in Alberta. The first phase consists of investigating, identifying, and classifying interface problem factors during the engineering/design phase. The second phase consists of enhancing project performance by developing and applying multiple-regression analysis models. The last phase includes developing and applying a prediction model to measure the impact of IM on construction project performance during the engineering/design phase using SPSS and Monte Carlo Simulation under Simphony. The contribution of this work will be a comprehensive framework that helps the construction industry to identify insufficiencies in IM and their potential impact on the project performance during engineering / design phase. This can assist in reducing conflicts among different parties involved in the construction projects as well as in delivering the project on time and within budget. It could help improve quality, scope changes control, team work performance and safety issues that will positively affect overall project performance.
