Key scientific research needs (out of many) 1.1 Improving and assessing ability of models to accurately quantify source impacts 1.1.1 We probably get it about right most of the time, but this is not always good enough (health assessments) 1.2 Understanding secondary organic aerosol formation 1.2.1 Major model bias at this time 1.3 Accurately assessing exposure (and errors) 1.3.1 Will limit ability to identify low level responses 1.4 Integrating emerging sensors into AQ management and science 1.4.1 They are coming... fast 1.5 Did not have a chance to elaborate more on 1.5.1 Rising background, other model errors/biases 2. Progress is being made on all fronts 2.1 Significant advances in instrumentation, science integrated in to models 3. Some major concerns 3.1 Losing critical data resources (AQ monitors being removed, e.g., CSN, others) 3.1.1 Needed for model evaluation and exposure assessment 3.2 Inappropriate use of models (direct use in health assessments without considering bias and error structures).
