The papers in this year's symposium consider problems that are highly pertinent in today's engineering and scientific environment. They consider a variety of extreme loading conditions. These include internal blast loads due to flame acceleration in structures and their influence on subsequent structural response, evaluation of recirculation line break acoustic loads on boiling water reactors and their effects on internal components, expansion limits for a pressure time-history associated with a propagating detonation within a pipe and experimental work performed to quantify the propagation and attenuation of pressure pulses as they move through piping systems filled with quiescent non-Newtonian simulants that support a void fraction of non-condensable gas. Multiple analysis methods ranging from analytic solutions to simplified and advanced computational fluid dynamics techniques are employed to solve these difficult problems. Experimental data is also presented for validation of the analysis.
